Associates at Life Care Center of Auburn, Massachusetts, recently marked a full year of giving to charitable causes.

The facility’s Fun Committee set up the opportunity for associates to give money or donate items to a different charity each month during 2018.

“Associates and even visitors of residents were very enthusiastic and giving,” said Kelly Dumas, occupational therapist assistant, who spearheaded the initiative. “We always collected more than what I anticipated. It’s nice working for a company and alongside associates and family members who support giving back to the community.”

Here is what the facility did each month:

  • January – donated new socks for Abby’s House, a local women’s shelter
  • February – made monetary donations for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • March – collected arts and crafts for a local day program for people with cognitive disabilities
  • April – collected toiletries for the Veterans Affairs office in Worcester, Massachusetts
  • May – raised money for Be the Match and encouraged registrations for bone marrow donations
  • June – held a bake sale for Dumas’ 150-mile bike ride for multiple sclerosis
  • July – collected items for a local animal shelter
  • August – donated backpacks and school supplies to a local school
  • September – held a raffle with prizes for the Alzheimer’s Association
  • October – held a bake sale for breast cancer
  • November – hosted a canned food drive for a local family services organization
  • December – collected hats and mittens for the same family services organization
